The Employer Mandate is the portion of Health Care Reform that penalizes large employers for not offering affordable health-coverage to its full-time employees. The penalties apply to employers with 50 or more full-time equivalent employees.
On July 2nd, President Obama announced that the Employer Mandate would be delayed until 2015. The reason given was to allow employers and the government more time to simplify and fully understand and implement the reporting requirements for the Mandate.
Also delayed were some of the stricter requirements regarding proof of income for subsidy eligibility in the Marketplace. Instead, an auditing system will be put in place for 2014. While the Republicans are pushing a similar delay of the Individual Mandate, such a step seems improbable at this point.
